AVG TuneUp (formerly AVG PC TuneUp) is an all-in-one PC performance utility designed for optimizing and maintaining your Windows operating system.
It includes a set of advanced tools that aims to solve common performance issues on Windows. AVG TuneUp tries to restore the peak performance of your system, games, and applications. It makes you feel like you just brought a brand new PC. In addition, it constantly monitors your hard drive(s) and will clean it up whenever necessary depending on your settings.
Using this optimization tool is not tricky, as it will guide you through the process. Any novice user would feel quite comfortable using it.
Using the tool
At the very start of using the program, it will automatically scan and analyze your PC’s performance, then shows you a maintenance summary with a list of various issues found on your system. Each issue can be selected and deselected. It also gives you a hint of what these issues are. Clicking one of the items will display more individual options which can be selected and deselected also.
I would suggest that you should uncheck “Broken registry items,” as experts say. Deleting or changing your registry settings might be dangerous as it can corrupt some of your installed programs. In addition, cleaning leftover registry entries wouldn’t provide you a significant performance boost. But, if you’re really sure of what you’re doing then it’s fine. At the bottom of the summary is a ‘Fix and clean’ and cancel button. After cleaning, it gives you a brief summary of what’s done.
The central dashboard of AVG TuneUP provides an overview of the current state of your Windows PC. Below the dashboard, each icon corresponds to an AVG TuneUp function which allows further customization of the tool. The Maintenance function allows you to perform automatic scanning to your system. ‘Speed up’ however, targets your background processes and startup programs allowing you to kill (sleep) a running or background process (or program). ‘Free up space’ could be the most commonly used function.
Lastly, the ‘Fix problems’ function focuses on the update status of your installed apps and disk errors. All outdated programs (AVG TuneUp supported programs) will be added to the list which can be individually or automatically updated. Another sub-function under the ‘Fix problem’ is Disk Doctor. AVG TuneUp changelog / release notes / version history
AVG doesn’t normally discloses “changelogs” of their software. So I have checked and searched their support community and queried something like “AVG TuneUp changelog” or “AVG TuneUp release notes.” Doing so came up to only one result which is a support question. In the reply, the support personnel says there’s nothing special about the new update (link: https://support.avg.com/answers?id=9060N000000gfvDQAQ).
